We have all gone through it. You’ve had an almost emotional connection with your favorite Netflix series and the conclusion just left you awestruck. Perhaps you go on for some time without investing another few hours into a new show, you go outside and remember oh, this is what the outside elements feel like. You proceed through the normal motions of your life and feel there’s something missing. Sitting down on your couch after a long week of work you power on your device in which you tune into your fav Netflix shows. But what do you watch? The choice is delicate, it’s a choice that may determine the new few hours of your life. At this point what do you do?
I recently found myself in the same perilous journey in search of a new television show to consume. After some deliberation, and an endless number of mediocre shows that Netflix recommended for me, I found myself watching Netflix’s: The Bodyguard, made in association with World Productions. Prior to coming across the tile on my app, I had also witnessed an advertisement for the show on Youtube. After viewing only a part of the trailer, mainly because Netflix loves to include spoilers in the them, I entered into the world of the UK security forces.
Audience members are transplanted from all over the world into the life of Sergeant David Budd, a Protection Command bodyguard. The opening scene includes David and his children taking a late night train ride ride through the countryside. Events begin to take shape and the high level of training that David Budd has experienced is brought to light. David’s characterization is taking shape through the first thirty minutes. Budd’s flawless execution leads the audience to believe in his inherent ability to defuse intense situations in a flawless manner; carefully planning out each decisive detail within the the situation.

During the first episode of the series the audience learns a tremendous amount about David’s technical talent but little to no information in regards to who he is as a person. There are hints of emotional development throughout the episode with inquiries into his time spent overseas fighting in Afghanistan and how that has altered his mind.
His fragile mind slowly deteriorates as his life compounds on top of itself. The unfolding drama releases the inner demons of David Budd as he juggles the threats in his marriage, professional life, and the danger focused on his family all while experiencing traumatic. The show is intriguing as it is intense, keeping the audience at the edge of their seat. If you’re looking for something to watch tonight, I would include The Bodyguard as a recommendation.
