Lesion Guide

As lesion main, I’ve learned quite a few things about finding success as this popular defender. I’ll include an overview of Lesion’s kit and strategies that I use to win on defense.

Have you ever found yourself struggling on defense, wondering what defender you should be playing? Do you find yourself needing rotates because your team is absolutely useless or perhaps, you need some more information about attackers for when they approach the defensive site?

Look no further than the best defensive operator in the game, Lesion. In this operator guide for Lesion, you’ll learn how to prevail on defense through careful use of your utility and by using time against your enemy. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege features a wide variety of operators. The operators are placed into two categories, attackers and defenders.

The operator that I will be providing tips, tricks, and more is Lesion. Lesion falls into the defensive category of the operators. With only a total of five operators on each team, it is understandable that you are looking to make the most with your preferred operator.

Lesion is equipped with a deadly arsenal that enables him to provide immense intel to his team. His anchor potential is exponential as his ability allows him to generate more gu mines over time.

His T-5 SMG packs a punch with a quick fire rate. Ubisoft continues to change site options for weapons, and even with the recent removal of the 1.5 scope, Lesion has plenty of options for his weapon. The T-5 is manageable with some time in the firing range and the quick fire rate may gift you with a headshot.

Secondary Weapon

In secondary options, Lesion can bring the Q-929 pistol and the super shorty. If you’re like me, your team that does bring any operator to create rotation holes. This means, more often than not, I am bringing the super shorty to alter the defensive positions to our favor. Do not underestimate the punch from the super shorty as you can easily remove attackers from play in close quarters.

Gadget

Lesion is equipped with either impact grenades or a bulletproof camera. Many other defensive operators have a bulletproof camera as an option in their lineup, leading me to often choose impact grenades over a bulletproof camera. These are especially helpful with the recent shield change.

Unique Ability

Last but not least, Lesion’s unique ability are gu mines. These prickly devices will have your defenders stopped in their tracks if they happen to step upon one. In the most recent change they do cause the attacker initial damage and will continue to hurt them if they don’t remove it from their foot.

Strategy

Now that you’re familiar with Lesion’s kit, let’s move onto strategy. Lesion’s unique gadget and kit allows for a wide variety of playstyles. Whether you’re roaming or anchoring, you can leverage his gadget and powerful weapon to decimate the enemy team.

Proxy War

Lesion’s main attraction is his gu mines. Implemented correctly, you can leverage Lesion’s gu mines to inform you, and your team, of enemy positions throughout the round. His gu mines generate overtime, equipping you with up to 9 gu mines to deploy at a time. Placing these in popular paths and choke points can identify enemy locations in crucial points of the round. They’re especially powerful towards the final seconds of the round, even preventing the enemy from planting.

Enemies cannot plant the diffuser if they hit a gu mine. They must first remove the gu before starting the plant. In current state, Lesion's mines are visible to the enemy which allows a more savvy play to destroy your precious gadget. If you happen to be a pleb, you won't have to worry about this. For the rest of us, being particular in your placement will be crucial in success with his gadget. Try using the natural terrain and chokepoints to conceal or distract from the gu mines on the ground.

When anchoring, you'll want to consider which placements are most dangerous. If you're like me, you'll have to create the rotates for your team while also placing down your mines. I've played the game enough to have a set rotation for my gu mines and I like to place the most dangerous ones first or those that are difficult to get to. For instance, defending bedroom on Oregon. The windows aren't that appealing to run in front of once the round starts. Instead, I create the rotation hole, place my first lesion mine under the double window and move onto the next rotate, then I place one under the drop down in attic. Learning the flow will allow for additional time on defense. Since you'll continue to generate gu mines over time and will also be on site for most of the round, use this to capitalize on chokepoints to enter the bomb site. Also consider placing gu mines on default plant positions to delay attackers in doing the "normal" run of the mill strategies.

Roaming

When you are rotating through a larger section of the map while roaming, utilize your gu mines in a way that informs you of the opposition's strategy. For beginner players, it may be difficult to keep track of where you threw the mines. When racking your brain of where to place them during the prep phase, consider where your final destination will be or where you believe that you are most vulnerable.

Place the gu mines in those areas as you hold another angle or location. Although they do a small amount of damage, the gu mines won't entirely deter the enemy. That's why they are more helpful for flank watch or enemy location in most rounds. I lean more towards the thought that you should be placing the gu mines in an area where the enemies will hit them rather than trying to expertly hide them. Even if an enemy ends up shooting your gu mine, you will still have their location due to the gunfire.

If you want to be a helpful teammate, you can place a few gu mines on site to assist in slowing down the attackers. This will also give you better insight of when you should be roaming back to assist your teammates. Especially, if the gu mine is placed in a default plant area.

Ultimately, Rainbow Six Siege comes down to those that can waste or capitalize on the short round timer. Lesion’s ability to continuously generate gu mines enables him to thrive against opponents that are taking a longer amount of time to approach the bombsite. Use this to your advantage and continue to place gu mines in common paths.

1 v 1 Situations

Lesion thrives in pivotal 1 v 1 situations. With a weapon that features a quick fire rate and a gadget that can identify enemy positions, you can play to the clock and whittle down the opponents opportunity. If you’re down a 1v1 situation, you will have some sort of information on the attacker’s approach. Leverage your gu mines to give yourself the advantage, unless you consider yourself a god-tier aimer. Making smart choices in your gu placement early in the round will greatly increase your ability to win in these situations. Such choices can also help in any scenario where you are outnumbered as you can focus in on a disjointed attack.

Lesion’s BEST strategy

You’ve blessed my many words today to learn more about how to play Lesion as a beginner in Rainbow Six Siege. Or perhaps, you’ve invested many hours into the game and would like another perspective on a character you enjoy. Either way, I hope this article has informed you of ways you can leverage Lesion’s kit to your advantage. Lastly, in this Lesion gameplay guide, I want to touch on his most powerful strategy.

Gu mine peaking

When Lesion was first released, you could view his Lesion mines through walls, easily identifying which gu mine was hit. While this was released in recent patches, peaking a gu mine hit is an extremely powerful tactic that is an easy kill. Since R6 is a tactical game that isn’t always to easiest to kill enemies in, this is important for anyone trying to get a leg up on their competition. Place a gu mine around a corner or on the other side of a reinforced wall. Wait for the enemy to hit the gu mine and then step out, pre-aiming where you placed the mine. At this point, your enemy will either have to engage you in a gunfight or remove the gu mine. This will often lead to an easy kill.

If you aren’t find success with this method, leverage the sound in the game to better enable you to kill the enemy. There is a distinct sound that the enemy makes when the Lesion mine is being removed. Simply wait for this sound queue and peak around the corner when the enemy is removing the gu mine. Otherwise, you will hear the enemies grunt in pain as the gu mine continues to inflict damage on them.
